Austin Heats Up with Nando's Peri-Peri Arrival, Cedar Park Welcomes Peri Peri Republic's Unique Flavors

Austin is set to welcome the fiery flavors of South African cuisine with Nando's Peri-Peri opening its doors in the Mueller neighborhood's Origin Hotel at 1825 McBee Street. Slated for a late November 2024 launch, the beloved international chicken chain will occupy a spacious 2,500-square-foot area on the hotel's ground floor, as confirmed by a company representative. According to Austin Eater, the renowned restaurant chain, which made its Texas debut with a Houston location in the summer of 2023, is now spreading its wings to Austin following openings in Dallas and Katy.

The herald of piri piri, also known as peri-peri or African Bird’s Eye chiles, the chain's fiery marinades have garnered a following, serving up whole chickens, wings, and an array of sides from honey sweet potatoes to halloumi cheese sticks. A representative for the company noted the Austin expansion while confirming the construction timeline beginning this October with expectations to wrap up by February 2024. The cuisine will mirror its international counterparts, dishes enveloped in the unique Piri Piri blend, as reported by Austin Eater.

Meanwhile, just outside of Austin, in Cedar Park, Peri Peri Republic is adding its take on Portuguese-style chicken dishes. Located near the entrance of Lakeline Mall by AMC Theatres, the restaurant opened its doors to the public on August 15. Offering a variety of dishes such as bowls, burgers, and wraps, patrons also have the option to choose from vegetarian dishes and an assortment of appetizers like falafel and loaded fries, Community Impact reports.

Both establishments pack a punch with flavorful peri peri sauces, that are integral to their offerings. While Ashraf Khan's Peri Peri Republic aims to offer a local touch to the peri peri experience, catering orders for those looking to bring a bit of spice to their gatherings. Beyond the heat, customers can expect to find familiar comfort in sides like coleslaw and steamed vegetables, among other varieties of dishes, according to the Community Impact. With these new openings, Austinites and Cedar Park residents have more options than ever to savor a global culinary trend that shows no signs of cooling down.
