On the evening of July 23, 2021, Martinez was discovered with a life-threatening stab wound after driving himself to a local convenience store on S. IH 35. Despite the attempts of good Samaritans and emergency personnel, Martinez succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Initially, the assailant was unknown, but subsequent investigations pointed to Mithovar Antoine Jr. as the suspect in this heinous act. On September 24, 2024, following the issuance of an arrest warrant for Capital Murder with a recommendation of no bond, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force apprehended Antoine, as reported by the Austin Police Department.
