
The Austin Police Department is currently conducting an investigation after a man was found deceased in the downtown area on Sunday afternoon. According to KVUE, the body was discovered near the corner of Nueces Street and West Cesar Chavez Street at approximately 4:20 p.m.
Early reports suggest that witnesses observed the individual acting erratically in the moments leading up to his death. The specifics surrounding the incident remain uncertain, and the cause of death is pending until medical examiners can provide an official determination. As of now, no additional information has been made available to the public. An APD spokesperson mentioned that the event is not being treated as suspicious.
Further details on the situation were shared by KXAN, who reported that the Austin Fire Department initially responded to calls about a "male behaving erratically" near the intersection in question around 2:00 p.m. The man had entered the waters of Lady Bird Lake, and emergency responders swiftly extracted him from the water despite their efforts.
Both the Austin Firefighters and Austin-Travis County EMS were engaged in life-saving measures, but unfortunately, they were unable to resuscitate the man. The APD Public Information Officer reiterated that the death is not being regarded as suspicious, indicating a less likelihood of foul play being involved.
