
The Austin Police Department is actively investigating a fatal collision that occurred in southeast Austin late Friday evening. According to reports shared by KXAN, the incident took place shortly before 9:30 p.m. along the 1900 block of Ben White Boulevard eastbound. Responding officers swiftly moved to shut down all eastbound lanes of traffic on Ben White Boulevard, including the surrounding ramps, to facilitate an on-scene investigation.
Sources confirm that Austin-Travis County EMS pronounced one individual dead at the crash site. While the identity of the deceased has not yet been publicly disclosed, the announcement was made on social media by the agency itself. As a result of the collision, the Texas Department of Transportation informed that both eastbound and westbound lanes on State Highway 71 were closed, stretching from Burleson Road to Interstate 35, to undoubtedly provide emergency responders the space needed to conduct their duties.

KVUE reported that following the investigation, the thoroughfare was reopened at around 1 a.m. Saturday.
