SDOT detailed the upcoming adjustments on their blog, highlighting key aspects like heightened pedestrian safety at intersections, better support for freight and delivery services, and the retention of a northbound travel lane to facilitate movement around the area.
SDOT's post outlines what locals can expect during the installation, which is set for completion in a single day on September 7. Installation will prompt temporary parking restrictions, strategically scheduled to limit disruption to the Ballard Farmers Market and minimize community travel impacts. However, the caveat remains that this work is subject to weather constraints and could change accordingly.
Once the striping work is complete, further modifications will follow, including converting some loading areas back into parking spaces and repositioning planters and bollards near curb bulbs to maintain pedestrian safety. SDOT's commitment to iterative improvements on Ballard Ave is clear, as these interim measures serve as a stepping stone to the street’s permanent redesign vision that will be formulated in collaboration with the community this fall.
