The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has released the identities of the law enforcement officials and the subject involved in a force incident in Yellow Medicine County. According to the report, Kasey Paul Willander, a 27-year-old resident of Clarkfield, was shot and wounded during events that unfolded between September 14th and 15th.

The incident that led to the shooting spanned two different sites in and near the town of Clarkfield. Willander is currently in stable condition at HCMC and is expected to recover. Through the course of the incident, no other individuals were harmed, a statement released by the BCA confirmed on September 19th.

On the law enforcement side, Deputy Michael Lamee of the Big Stone County Sheriff's Office was identified as having discharged his firearm and is currently on leave as is usual in these circumstances. Moreover, a Meeker County sheriff's deputy also discharged their weapon, yet their identity remains undisclosed due to their undercover status as allowed under Minnesota law. Other officers involved used less-lethal means during the incident such as Willmar Police Department's Sergeant Ross Livingood, Glenwood Police Department Officer Steve Nagel, and deputies from Big Stone, Redwood, and Meeker County Sheriff's Offices.

The BCA is actively investigating the police's use of force and is reviewing body camera footage among other evidence. As part of the initial investigation outcomes, BCA officials recovered two firearms found near Willander's place of apprehension. Once their review is complete, they will hand over their findings, which currently do not include a charging recommendation, to the Yellow Medicine County Attorney's Office for further examination.
