Sheriff Javier Salazar disclosed that as of now, there have been 15 confirmed homicides in the county for 2024, which overshadows the 14 witnessed in all of last year and equals the sum total for 2022, according to details highlighted in a news conference and reported by Express News.

During a recent press briefing, Sheriff Salazar expressly noted the worrying rise in violent crimes engendering deaths within domestic spheres. The recent fatal stabbing of a mother by her daughter has become emblematic of this grim picture. The incident took place last weekend at their home on Farnsworth Drive, where the elder Zamarripa was found with fatal stab wounds, as outlined in the report from KSAT. Out of eight family-related homicides this year, Rachel Zamarripa, aged 21, is linked to the latest one after being charged with the alleged murder of Linda Zamarripa, her mother.

Concerns were also raised regarding social gatherings after last month's fatal shooting during a "takeover" party. Seventeen-year-old Landyn Reyes was found deceased in the backyard of a home where a party had taken place, struck by gunfire. The aftermath left detectives with multiple shell casings and more questions in an ongoing investigation to find the responsible parties, as someone called 911 saying that more than 20 shots were fired, according to the narrative shared by Express News.
