The quiet of an early Monday morning was shattered in East Cleveland as body cam footage released by local police captured a series of shootings that unfolded amidst a Shaw High School reunion celebration. According to Cleveland19, the incidents took place near Euclid and Shaw Avenues, with the first occurring just after 2 a.m. at a Mobil gas station. The video detailed a vehicle, pierced by bullets and the ensuing panic as officers discovered individuals who had been shot.
Further chaos ensued as FOX8 I-Team's footage showed law enforcement reacting to three separate shooting scenes within a 90-minute frame, highlighting the volatility and unpredictability officers faced. Crowds gathered for informal celebrations along Euclid Avenue when the violence erupted, and, the bodycam footage shows an officer in a sprint from his cruiser asking startled people on the ground, “are you all right, are you all right?”
The shootings have prompted a call to action within the community. Longtime resident and activist Art McKoy expressed his frustration and appeal for public cooperation in a statement obtained by News 5 Cleveland: "We're telling the outsiders right now, hell no. There's no room for that kind of mess in East Cleveland and stop giving East Cleveland a bad rap."
