Two individuals have been taken into custody by officers from the Boston Police Department with charges of shoplifting, an incident that comes amidst a reported uptick in larceny cases within the commercial heart of the city's Back Bay area. The arrests transpired on Friday, September 13, 2024, just as the evening's shadows began their slow stretch across the streets of this bustling enclave.
Identified as Kiara Ragland, 19, from Boston, and Jacarie Allen, 20, of Roxbury, the suspects were observed by officers specifically detailed to patrol through the Prudential Mall, which has seen an increase in such criminal activities. According to a report from the Boston Police Department, officers were dispatched to 800 Boylston Street, the address of the affluent Lululemon store, after receiving reports of an ongoing larceny in progress.
Law enforcement personnel were apparently tipped off about a repeat offender within the store's confines. Following this lead, they watched as two individuals made their exit sans the typical exchange of currency for goods. The officers trailed the suspects, ultimately confronting and detaining them in the vicinity of 815 Boylston Street. In the process, police recovered approximately $758 in merchandise, an inventory said to have been illegally appropriated from the store.
The arrests of Ragland and Allen concluded with both suspects be charged with Larceny under $1,200. An additional discovery came to light that Allen was not an unfamiliar face to law enforcement; the individual had four active warrants out for various charges, including Shoplifting, Larceny, and Assault and Battery. They are both expected to face the music at their arraignment in the Boston Municipal Court.
