On Friday night, a response to a call in Roxbury led to the arrest of two young men and the recovery of two firearms. The Boston Police Department reported that Zakiya Pierre, 19, and Jaydan Depina, 18, were apprehended after a pursuit in the area of Savin Street.

According to the police report, officers were dispatched following a 911 call that described two males walking with a firearm toward Blue Hill Ave. Pierre and Depina matched the caller’s description when spotted by the police, and both began to run toward Blue Hill Ave. while holding their waistbands as soon as they made eye contact with the officers. Attempting to locate the suspects, the officers gave chase.

The pursuit ended with Pierre being caught on Woodcliff St., where officers recovered a Rock Island Firearm .45 from his sweatshirt. Watching Depina flee, an officer saw him make a throw, hearing a metallic sound that suggested another discarded weapon on Dove Street. Depina was later found hiding in the grass of a backyard on Howard Ave. A Bersa Thunder 380 was eventually found tucked between a fence and an air conditioning unit back on Dove Street.

The authorities charged both Pierre and Depina for unlawful possession of a firearm, a loaded firearm, and ammunition. Recovered from the pocket of Pierre, the Boston Police Department identified the .45 caliber handgun as loaded with one in the chamber and a magazine filled with nine rounds. Depina, following the short chase, authorities also recovered another handgun believed to be thrown during the pursuit. In the Roxbury District Court, both suspects are expected to be arraigned on the aforementioned charges.
