Get ready to tweak your daily commute, Boulder County residents. Starting this Monday, Sept. 23, Colorado Highway 119 will be buzzing with bulldozers and construction crews c/o CDOT and Kraemer North America. The 'Safety, Mobility and Bikeway Improvements Project' is kickstarting, and it's a collaborative hustle, CDOT's teaming up with the Regional Transportation District (RTD) and Boulder County to cut down on those pesky traffic snarls and crashes, as reported by Boulder County.
Wondering what's about to change on your daily traverse? Along the construction path, a parade of heavy machinery and possible delays await you. Lane shifts and shoulder workouts at key intersections might just stretch your patience and your travel time. Keep your eyes peeled for changes around Jay Road, CO 52, and other intersections, as detailed in the Boulder County announcement.
In the shuffle, RTD's moving its chess pieces too. September 29 marks the day the Niwot Park-n-Ride waves goodbye until 2027, promising to come back armed with platforms for the new CO 119 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, more parking space, lighting, and security for those of you hitching a ride on two wheels or four. Not to forget, the north and southbound CO 119 bus stops at CO 52 will also be signing off come Sept 29, making space for brand new BRT bus platforms and the bikeway median, as stated by Boulder County.
Before you grumble about the RTD changes, take note that the BOLT bus won't be ghosting you completely. Temporary stops couldn't cut the mustard due to a no-show of ADA-compliant locales, but you'll find your ride waiting at 63rd St. south of CO 52 and up north near Monarch or Niwot. Whether it's lanes closing for a quick nip and tuck near intersections including 71st Street, Niwot Road, or way out to Oxford Road, make sure to game plan your commute, so you don't get caught off guard.
