Honoring the diverse tapestry that weaves together the heritage of our nation, Boulder County has designated Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month. The Board of County Commissioners encourages the community to recognize and participate in the festivities that pay homage to the vital contributions of Hispanic and Latinx individuals to our collective social fabric.
Several events, poised to celebrate this period, are slated across Boulder County. Akin to the vibrancy of the cultures in focus, the festival calendar promises to fully embrace and showcase the rich traditions and crafts characteristic of Hispanic and Latinx communities. Among the scheduled activities is the eagerly anticipated Latino Chamber of Commerce's Feria del Tamal, which has found support from the Boulder County Office of Sustainability, Climate Action, and Resilience, and is set to take place at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. Residents have an opportunity to not just observe, but also to readily immerse themselves in the cultural tapestry that defines our county.
The series of events include but are not limited to Colorado Chautauqua’s Festival del Sol in Boulder on Sep. 22, Y Fiesta in Longmont on Oct. 5, and the kickoff of the City of Longmont’s Día de Muertos Exhibit and Celebration starting Oct. 12. According to Boulder County, these gatherings are designed to not only entertain but also educate, and thus enrich Boulder County’s wider community on the enduring legacy of its Hispanic and Latinx residents.
And for those unable to attend in person, options to engage abound. Longmont Library offers Home Crafts throughout various dates, ensuring that the celebratory spirit of the month can be brought into homes, inciting a personal connection to the festivities. Further adding to the educational aspects of the month's events, the Lafayette Public Library provides book recommendations to deepen residents' understanding of Hispanic and Latinx heritage.
