The City of Boulder has made strides with the Ash House property owners at 891 12th St. to quickly rectify existing building code violations and safety hazards. In what looks to be a swift turnaround, the property's owners pledged to restore the building to its approved condition in two weeks, following a court session last Friday, as reported by the City of Boulder.

During the hearing last Friday, as Boulder officials shared, the owner came forward acknowledging the life-safety issues and violations, amid the city's prevention efforts to evacuate the property. According to Brad Mueller, the city's director of Planning & Development Services, as per the City of Boulder, "The city has been proactively working with the property owners on a resolution. Our hope is to make this property safe for the students who are living there as quickly as possible." He further expressed the city's intentions, "We know this has been a disruptive situation for the students and are committed to doing what we can to work toward a fast resolution with the property owners and bring certainty to tenants."

Before the agreement, city inspectors had thrown a closure notice at the Ash House on September 16, discovering the addition of bedrooms that bypassed necessary building permits, land use approvals, and life-safety inspections. These modifications were executed following a round of inspections that had been approved. It stands, the current layout of the units is not up to par with code and safety regulations, leaving these added bedrooms unable to be preserved under any circumstance per code.

Should the need emerge for further judicial intervention, the next court session regarding these issues is slated for 9 a.m. on October 8 at the Boulder County District Court. The hope, however, as projected by the recent advancements, is for this matter to be laid to rest, circumventing the need for additional court dates.
