An armored truck driver, employed by Brinks Security, was shot and wounded during an attempted robbery outside a Statesville CVS this past Friday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 2:15 p.m. at the pharmacy along Taylorsville Highway, resulted in the driver sustaining a gunshot wound to the upper torso, acording to WCNC.
The confrontation escalated quickly, and despite being shot, the guard managed to certainly fire back at the assailants. These suspects subsequently fled the scene in a bronze-colored Dodge Charger, as reported by the Statesville Police Department. The guard was then transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital for treatment, facing injuries that were not life-threatening. QC News writes that the employee was found inside the CVS with the wound after the altercation.
The Statesville Police are actively investigating the robbery and have requested anyone with information to come forward. A statement obtained by WBTV states that "two individuals attempted to rob the guard as he was exiting the store and returning to his vehicle" and emphasizes that the inquiry into this violent episode is ongoing.
