
The Burnsville community is grappling with the unsettling aftermath of the shooting incident that transpired on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Red Oak Park. In a recent update, Police Chief Tanya Schwartz issued a statement acknowledging the impact of the violence and the ongoing efforts to bring those responsible to justice. "I appreciate everyone’s patience as this complex investigation continues," Schwartz said, underlining the dedication of investigators, who are actively processing evidence and interviewing witnesses to solve the case.
The Burnsville Police Department detailed that shots were fired in the vicinity of the basketball court area, resulting in five male victims, aged 16, and 17, two of whom are 18, and 19, sustaining injuries. As of the latest update, two of the victims are still hospitalized. Despite the numerous interviews conducted - close to 50 witnesses in total - no arrests have been made in connection with the multiple suspects believed to be involved in the crime.
In an effort to bolster the extensive investigative work, Burnsville police are reaching out to the public for assistance. Residents with home surveillance footage between 7:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on the day of the shooting are urged to come forward. "We continue to work with our federal, state, and local partners," the department indicated, signaling a collaborative approach to the ongoing investigation with agencies like the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.
In response to the incident, Burnsville Police assure the public that they have intensified patrols around Red Oak Park to maintain safety and deter potential incidents.
