Revving up for an evening filled with the roar of engines and the glint of polished chrome, Los Angeles car enthusiasts are set to converge at Kaiser Kars in Compton for the inaugural "Super Street After Dark" event hosted by MotorTrend, boasting a gargantuan gathering of more than 250 heavily modified, performance-enhanced vehicles. Set for September 7th, the spectacle comes as a celebration of the Super Street subculture, established back in the early '90s when aficionados of the automotive arts began tricking out Japanese imports to tear up the streets—now, of course, strictly on the legal tarmacs in Southern California.
According to KTLA, attendees can expect much more than a static display of flashy rides; they're in for a fully-fueled evening that blends sport with art as the Super Street community shares their passion—and their penchant for performance-equipped cars with their unique personality breathed into them, a statement echoed by MotorTrend Editor Miguel Cortina, “It’s not just about who can go the fastest and whose engine sounds the loudest. It’s also about what kind of art you’re bringing into the car.’
Jumping in from zero to sixty, Amir Bentatou, a racer and engineer within the scene told KTLA, “I have an Acura NSX that’s pretty extreme and would be a $300,000 car to build,” highlighting the immense investment many pour into their mechanical beasts, meantime for those with thinner wallets looking to break into the scene, an initial outlay upwards of $10,000 or $15,000 can get your race-ready wheels spinning at the track.
In addition to the adrenaline-tickling vehicles, MotorTrend's event is set to feature a live Art Car demonstration in collaboration with a local artist, celebrating automotive aesthetics alongside the power under the hood, details provided by MotorTrend, also stating that attendees will revel in music and other artistic expressions of the car culture legacy, and if you can't make it to the West Coast bash, don't fret a gearhead's haven will pop-up on the East Coast come November 7th.
For those already raring to join Super Street's lit engine party, tickets are available now at motortrend's dedicated event page, and should plans collide like a bad day at the drag races, refunds can be sought by contacting [email protected]—for the rest of us, we'll see you when the sun drops and the streetlights ignite the passion inherent in Los Angeles' car culture.
