In an operation highlighting the vigilance of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers, a man wanted on two felony warrants was apprehended at the Del Rio Port of Entry. According to the CBP's newsroom release, Jesus Campos Aranda, a 69-year-old lawful permanent U.S. resident, was detained for secondary screening at Del Rio International Bridge last Saturday, whereupon his identity was confirmed using biometric verification, revealing the serious charges against him.
These warrants included allegations of continued sexual abuse of a child under 14 and indecency with a child through sexual contact, as issued by the Lee County Sheriff's Office in Giddings, Texas; Campos Aranda now faces his legal reckoning after being taken to Val Verde County jail. "Our frontline officers continue to maintain strict vigilance. Their attention to detail and dedication to the border security mission resulted in this significant apprehension," Port Director Liliana Flores told CBP's official website, emphasizing the role of the CBP in community safety and security.
Criminal charges are not convictions, and it should be noted that the accused, in this case, retains the constitutional presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court. The effectiveness of the CBP's security mission is further reinforced by this event, as their operational procedures and the use of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database plays a pivotal role in capturing individuals wanted for a variety of offenses, spanning from money laundering to sexual child abuse, and even military desertion.
