CBP Seizes Over $1 Million in Meth at Del Rio International Bridge During Security MissionSource: U.S. Customs and Border Protection

In what amounts to a significant interception at the Del Rio International Bridge, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers made a million-dollar drug bust earlier this week. The seizure, netting over $1.1 million in methamphetamine, highlights the ongoing drug interdiction efforts on the border. According to a CBP press release, the find was the result of diligent work by their officers.

Port Director Liliana Flores praised the officers' work, stating, “This seizure reflects the commitment of our frontline officers to CBP’s border security mission and the effective utilization of inspection experience and technology,” in a statement obtained by CBP’s newsroom. Liliana underscores the point that these drugs will not contribute to the cycle of harm often unleashed within our communities. A 2014 Ford van, together with a trailer, was referred for a more thorough inspection on Sept. 11. This led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of alleged methamphetamine.

The seizure took place during a secondary examination that included a non-intrusive inspection system, and with the aid of CBP canines. Hidden within planters in the trailer,, officers found eight packages weighing a total of 124.78 pounds. The estimated street value of the meth was tagged at a staggering $1,115,472.

The narcotics, alongside the driver, vehicle, and trailer were confiscated, and turned over to the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff's office has launched a criminal investigation subsequent to the seizure, as reported by CBP. It is incidents like these that reinforce the complexities of border security and the ongoing battle against the illegal drug trade.
