Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke has stepped into a new leadership role as the president of the Arizona League of Cities and Towns Executive Committee. During the organization's latest annual conference in Phoenix, Hartke was selected to serve a two-year term at the helm of a 25-member committee that carries the voice of cities across Arizona.
Mayor Hartke's election is a promotion from his previous role as vice president of the committee, and he intends to directly address statewide concerns. "I am passionate about the work the League performs on behalf of Arizona's cities and towns," Kevin Hartke said. "As we work with the Governor and Legislature, we will continue to collaborate with state lawmakers and stakeholders to address key issues facing our communities, including housing, infrastructure and water," he told the City of Chandler official website.
Joining Hartke in the league's new leadership team are Superior Mayor Mila Besich, sworn in as vice president, and Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers taking the reins as treasurer. Hartke will also represent the League on the Arizona Commerce Authority Board of Directors and continue his work with multiple regional economic and technology councils.
Hartke, now in his second four-year term as Mayor of Chandler, has a history of governmental service, including two stints as Vice Mayor and nine years on the City Council. He also currently chairs the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council and serves on the board of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. In addition to these roles, Hartke actively participates in the United States Conference of Mayors Technology and Innovation Committee and the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) Implementation Task Force.
