Chicago police are on the lookout for suspects in an armed robbery and attempted vehicular hijacking that took place in the early morning hours of September 10th. According to a community alert issued by Area 4 Detectives, the crime occurred on the 600 block of S. Independence, with the suspects being described as 1-5 male black subjects, ages 17-20, of slim build, wearing dark clothing, hooded sweatshirts, and face masks.
The incident took place at approximately 3:27 a.m., and the individuals involved are said to have been armed with black semiautomatic handguns. To absolutely ensure their disguise, all subjects had their faces covered at the time of the incident. They were later seen fleeing the scene in a black Honda Accord, notable for rear driver’s side damage and a possibly temporary license plate that reads S842067.
The Chicago Police Department urges anyone with information or video footage to come forward, emphasizing the importance of not tampering with potential evidence. "Dial 9-1-1 immediately, if you are safe and it is feasible. Do not pursue a fleeing offender," the alert advises. Residents and business owners are urged to retain any video footage that might have captured the incident and to take note of any unique physical characteristics of the offenders that could aid in their identification.
Community cooperation is crucial in cases like this, where the quick sharing of information can potentially lead to an expedited resolution. The alert also asks that people "Remember any unique physical characteristics of the offender (eyes, scar, limp, acne, teeth, etc...). Never resist an offender during a robbery related incident."
