The City of Clarksville recently announced that it is securing a major federal grant to enhance the safety of four critical streets, with $8,052,318 allocated for the initiative. In a move aiming to mitigate alarmingly high incidences of traffic-related fatalities and critical injuries, improvements will focus on Kraft Street, Riverside Drive, New Providence Boulevard, and Fort Campbell Boulevard, according to the official statement released on the City of Clarksville's website.

Administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation's SS4A (Safe Streets and Roads For All) project, the grant will cover most of the total project cost, estimated at $10,065,398. The release clarified the city's obligation to provide a 20% match to the grant amount. As noted by the presence of Fort Campbell and Austin Peay State University, the improvements are critical for the pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow in Clarksville.

"This is truly a dream realized, for our City and the safety of the people traveling our streets," Mayor Joe Pitts stated, per the city's press release. He credited the city's internal SS4A team, led by City Grants Director Lauren Winters, for meeting the complex requisites necessary to secure this grant. Winters' tenure at the SS4A has progressed from initial funding for developing an action plan to the construction phase backed by the SS4A implementation award.

As part of the Mayor’s Transportation 2020+ plan, this project aims to improve roads in Clarksville, upgrade intersections, enhance traffic signals, and add more sidewalks. The city is dedicated to improving transportation based on community input and securing funding.
