Residents of Clay County are seeing a transition in their garbage service providers as FCC Environmental Services steps in on October 1. As part of the shift, the company will fill a service gap in the Clay Hill area for this week only. "Therefore, if the Waste Management pickup day was Tuesday, and the new FCC pickup day is Monday, FCC will be picking up trash in that area on Tuesday, Oct. 1 this week only to mitigate the large gap in service," News4JAX reported.

All garbage and yard waste will now be picked up on the same day, unlike Waste Management's previous schedule, where they were collected separately. However, the new system also ends recycling collection due to significant cost increases that would be passed on to residents. As the county commissioners stated in February, continuing the recycling program would have "increased the cost to residents now, and even more over the next 10 years," according to News4JAX.

To clarify doubts regarding new pickup days, the county's website offers a tool where residents can input their address to determine their designated day. Additional details about the service changes can be found on the county government's official site. With curbside recycling scrapped, the county is putting its full focus on trash and yard waste management across various unincorporated regions, including Fleming Island and Keystone Heights, as mentioned on JaxToday.

After the recent hurricanes, the county has provided guidelines for waste disposal. Residents are urged to place their items by the road without blocking important infrastructure. "Do not stack debris against trees, electrical boxes, poles, hydrants or storm drains," as per by JaxToday. The deadline for items to be at the roadside for pickup is October 7. Residents are asked to be patient, as the amount of waste will affect the collection schedule. This information and the new garbage service updates can also be confirmed on the Clay County, FL Government Facebook page.

The switch to FCC Environmental Services comes after the company had a troubled experience in nearby St. Johns County, where their contract was terminated due to resident complaints. However, Clay County officials are optimistic about the transition. The new system aims to be cost-effective, even if it means giving up some previous services like curbside recycling.
