Last month's Clear the Shelters initiative proved to be a stunning success at the Mesquite Animal Shelter, with a significant leap in pet adoptions compared to the previous year. Hugo Espinoza, Animal Services Manager, explained that last Saturday alone, a special one-day event resulted in over 40 animals finding new owners, contributing to a total of 171 pets adopted throughout the campaign period, an almost 60% increase from last year, according to the City of Mesquite.
The nationwide effort, launched in partnership with NBCUniversal Local and Telemundo, has been a beacon of hope for more than 1.1 million pets since its inception in 2015, and this year, the Mesquite Animal Shelter outdid itself, serving as a testament to the community's growing involvement and compassion. Espinoza shared the vibrant atmosphere of the event saying, "There was such positive energy. It was exciting to see so many wonderful pets find forever homes", as per the City of Mesquite. The Mesquite Shelter saw about 300 people attend their local event, further bolstering the scope of their success last year when 107 pets were placed during Clear the Shelters month.
Moreover, Clear the Shelters has extended its impact beyond direct pet adoption, involving more than 1,400 shelters and rescues that took part last year, facilitating over 157,000 pet adoptions and raising north of $575,000; for those looking to support the cause this year, financial donations can be made until September 30, according to the City of Mesquite.
