
Tragedy struck the Columbus community on the night of last Thursday when a man was critically wounded in a shooting incident. According to a media release by the Columbus Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting at around 9:26 PM in the 1100 block of E. 12th Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Rayshawn Rogers with an apparent gunshot wound.
After being swiftly transported to a local hospital by the Columbus Fire Department Medic personnel, Mr. Rogers' condition was deemed critical. Despite best efforts by the medical staff, Mr. Rogers succumbed to the injuries last Saturday. The unfortunate turn of events turned this case from an assault investigation to a homicide.
The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation of this incident as the severity of Mr. Rogers' injury was significant from the outset. The Columbus Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward, asking contacts to be made directly to the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at (614) 645-4730 or through the Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS (8477). Detectives Thomas and Phillips have been identified as the lead investigators on the case.
