In a late-night collision at the intersection of Woodland Ave. and E. 17th Ave., Markeesha Waddell was pronounced dead after her vehicle was hit by a Buick Century. According to a Columbus Police media release, the accident occurred today, at approximately 12:54 am, when Waddell, driving a 2020 Ford Fusion, failed to stop for a red traffic signal. Her car was struck while attempting a left turn.
The collision's force sent Waddell's Ford spinning, resting on the intersection's northeast corner. Meanwhile, the Buick, traveling east on E. 17th Ave., ended up facing westbound in the westbound lane after a counterclockwise spin. Columbus Fire Department responders had to use mechanical extraction methods to retrieve Ms. Waddell from her car. She, along with an adult front seat passenger of the Ford and the adult driver of the Buick, were transported to Grant Medical Center by CFD Medics. Sadly, at 1:43 am, Ms. Waddell's injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A neighborhood safety camera captured additional details regarding the crash, which will assist in the ongoing investigation by the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit.
