A tragic incident occurred last Friday night in Allen Township, Hillsdale County, when a 2-year-old girl was fatally struck by a vehicle. Audacy reports that Michigan State Police First District responded to a call about a car versus pedestrian crash at approximately 8:20 p.m. Upon their arrival at the intersection of Chicago (M-49) and Railroad Street, officers discovered the young girl lying in the roadway. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by a first responder and troopers followed by advanced medical treatment from paramedics, the child was pronounced dead at Hillsdale Hospital due to the injuries sustained.
According to the initial findings released by the Michigan State Police and recounted by WLNS, after her parents had put her to bed and were working around the house, the toddler managed to leave her bed and the house. She wandered onto Chicago Street where she was hit by a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 38-year-old Allen man. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in this tragic accident, the authorities pointed out.
The area where the incident occurred is described as having both residential and commercial properties, with the speed limit capped at 45 miles per hour. Allen Township is located about 40 miles southwest of Jackson.
An autopsy is scheduled to understand the precise cause of death. While the driver's cooperation with the investigation has not been confirmed by the police, the investigation remains active. Michigan State Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the MSP Jackson Post at 517-780-4580, as detailed by the MSP First District's social media update.
