Seattle's Salmon Bay Park is transforming as construction has kicked off to renovate its play area in the Ballard neighborhood. According to Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), the project commenced on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, with local contractor A-1 Landscaping & Construction spearheading the effort. The upgrade promises to provide a modern play space that is accessible and safe, though the play area will be closed during the renovation phase. SPR has communicated its gratitude for the community's patience and cooperation during construction, slated for completion in early 2025.

The new 'Woodland Explorer' play area design was created based on community feedback. It will have different equipment for toddlers and older kids, including slides, a big net climber, and balance challenges. The zip line from the old park will stay, showing the park’s commitment to keeping its favorite features. The updates will also improve access to the play area, add new seating, and include more bike parking with help from the Seattle Department of Transportation.

The Seattle Park District is funding the 'Woodland Explorer' project, which supports maintaining parks, community centers, recreation programs, and developing new parks. The playground design, which comes from community input, will meet the latest accessibility and safety standards.
