Students were transported swiftly to a designated safe location at a former Foamex plant, as informed by the Cornelius Police Department. According to a QCNews report, the situation unfolded just before 11 a.m., with parents being advised not to approach the school but to head to the Foamex location at 18801 Old Statesville Road for reunification with their children.
With precaution being the motive driving enforcement actions, officers ensured to systematically shuttle the students from Bailey Road Park to the former industrial site, as WCNC Charlotte reported. In the wake of this incident, nearby Hough High School was also affected, placed on a modified lockdown.
Concurrently, there was heightened concern across the district as this event came amidst ongoing investigations into another alleged threat at West Charlotte High School. WCNC Charlotte shared a comment from a district spokesperson that dozens of schools statewide have recently received threats.
The Cornelius Police Department’s active presence was to not only oversee the safe transition of students but also to provide counsel and answer any arising queries from parents at the Foamex location. A source confirmed to WBTV the initial bomb threat and the thorough response that followed.
