A small plane crashed into a backyard in the Cottonwood neighborhood, causing distress among residents and leaving the pilot in the hospital. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred on Sunday on Spur Drive, a residential area situated close to the local airport. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office reported that the pilot is in stable condition having been transported to a Phoenix area hospital. There were no passengers on the plane, and thankfully, no one on the ground sustained injuries.
The crash was powerful enough to damage a home's carport, yet, miraculously, the structure of the house remained untouched. The Federal Aviation Administration along with the National Transportation Safety Board have been called to thoroughly investigate the cause, which remains unknown. As of now, the identity of the injured pilot has yet to be publicly released. Brandi Boykin, a resident, recounted to FOX 10 Phoenix the moment of impact, saying, "I was sleeping, and I heard a crash...I thought, ‘Oh, something just crashed in the backyard, whatever.'"
Cottonwood residents are reeling from this unexpected event, with many expressing their shock that such an incident could happen so close to their homes. "I was very surprised, very shocked," Boykin added. Neighbors are counting their blessings, recognizing the potential for the outcome to have been far more disastrous. The proximity of the homes to the Cottonwood Airport has historically been of no concern to residents.
Verde Valley Fire District officials confirmed that there were individuals in the home during the crash, yet none were harmed, as quoted by 12news.
