As Dallas confronts its annual battle with the West Nile Virus, city officials are scheduling targeted mosquito control tactics in various neighborhoods. As reported by the City of Dallas, weather permitting, the areas pinpointed for mosquito spraying include neighborhoods with a range of council districts from 2 to 13.

The operation is set to commence today and will go through to the early hours tomorrow, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Residents living within the boundaries of specified streets such as W. Lovers Lane, San Benito Way, and others, will see trucks dispersing insecticides approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. Though regarded as safe, the city advises locals to minimize exposure: stay indoors during spraying, keep windows up if driving near operational trucks, and for pedestrians, steer clear of following the trucks. Incidentally, should contact occur, the city recommends washing the affected skin with soap and water immediately.

In addition to such measures, Dallas authorities are proactive in reminding residents of personal precautions like reducing outdoor activities during peak mosquito hours. For those stepping out in the evening or at night, covering up limbs and applying mosquito repellent are key strategies to dodge bites. Fighting the spread of West Nile Virus isn't only about spraying or personal protection; it also includes disrupting the mosquito lifecycle by eliminating breeding grounds. Stagnant water in pools, pet dishes, plant saucers, and other common household environments can be potential nurseries for these insects.

Dallas inhabitants can actively participate in mosquito prevention by cleaning up standing water and can pick up free mosquito dunks from code compliance offices across the city, with locations in Central, North Central, and South West regions among others. For the pesky problem of standing water or to request exemption from the spray list, residents are encouraged to dial 3-1-1.
