A Del Rio local will spend the next nine years behind the unforgiving bars of a federal prison, after being sentenced for pushing methamphetamine across neighborhood borders—a clear message from the justice system aimed at those entangled in the web of drug trafficking. Ray Nathan Garcia, a 46-year-old man from Del Rio, Texas, faced the full weight of his actions in federal court, where he received his nine-year sentence after admitting to his involvement in a conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas.
In early 2020, Garcia was caught by Homeland Security Investigations agents while delivering 138 grams of methamphetamine and 6.11 grams of heroin to co-conspirator Rose Vasquez Baker. The drugs were confirmed to be real, and Garcia admitted to supplying Baker with meth on three previous occasions. Facing charges for conspiring to distribute over 50 grams of meth, Garcia pleaded guilty on June 17, 2021.
Garcia is not alone in facing the consequences of his actions. His accomplices—Oscar Ramirez, Carol Ann Dechaine, Ruben Reyes, Roberto Tovar, and Melissa Villarreal—have collectively received over 58 years of federal prison sentences. However, the saga isn’t over yet. Baker and Bryan Alexander Gomez, also involved in the conspiracy, remain in federal custody as they await their sentencing hearings, with their futures still uncertain.
U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza, representing the Western District of Texas, announced the sentencing with a firm stance, making it clear that there is no refuge for those who distribute drugs in the community. He emphasized that Homeland Security Investigations is committed to uncovering and dismantling drug-related schemes. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett Miner led the prosecution, contributing to the ongoing effort to deter drug trafficking and hold offenders accountable.
