Residents in the District of Columbia should expect wet conditions as the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts varied rain conditions starting today, lingering potentially into the midweek. Today's weather brings showers and fog, with a calm Northeast wind wafting at around 7 mph and a comfortable daytime high nearing 70 degrees. The forecast suggests brighter skies by Thursday. NWS's latest update pegs the chance of precipitation today at 50%.
As night falls, the opportunity to shower is likely before 11 p.m., accompanied by a fog and an expected low around 63 degrees. NWS predicts a continued 60% chance of rain, though any new rainfall is anticipated to be less than a tenth of an inch. Tomorrow will see more showers expected mainly before 2 p.m., and fog making a brief encounter in the morning hours, while the temperature hovers close to yesterday's high.
Meanwhile, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until Wednesday, cautioning residents against up to one foot of inundation above ground level due to tidal flooding in low-lying areas. Particularly, the advisory warns of potential impacts along portions of the seawall adjacent to Ohio Drive and the Hains Point Loop Road, as well as near the Tidal Basin, with King Street and Strand Street in Alexandria also flagged for water approaching curb level.
The advisory highlights shoreline inundation is expected in these areas with tides one and a half to two feet above normal. The NWS indicates that the next high tide at Washington Channel is at 7:16 a.m. and again at 7:43 p.m. today. Urging caution, authorities advise against driving through barricaded or flooded areas, and suggest taking steps to protect property that may be prone to flood damage. Wednesday brings mostly cloudy conditions with a high near 74, followed by a more certain reprieve of sunny skies toward the weekend.
