A fatal shooting incident, resulting from a domestic dispute, has shaken the Channelview area in Harris County. Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 1400 block of Oakengates Drive, near Sterling Green Boulevard, yesterday afternoon following reports of gunfire. The initial call described the incident as a drive-by shooting; however, after arriving at the scene around 5:50 p.m., authorities discovered a grimmer reality. Two men were found shot, and the violence had stemmed from an altercation between a homeowner's son and her boyfriend, not random gunfire as someone first reported.
According to ABC13, the incident escalated when both men brandished firearms. "After speaking to witnesses, we were able to determine this was not a drive-by shooting but an argument between the homeowner's adult son and her boyfriend," said Sgt. Ben Beall."Apparently after the argument, both of them produced handguns and shot at each other."
A 28-year-old man, identified as the homeowner's son, was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother's boyfriend, wounded by the gunfire in his leg, was taken to the hospital where the surgery was awaiting him. Investigators are currently collecting more testimonies and searching for any surveillance footage that may have recorded the incident, added Sgt. Beall as per an interview with Click2Houston.
The case is set to be presented to a grand jury which will then decide if there will be any charges filed. Harris County Sheriff's Office continues to work on piecing together the details of the argument that led to the tragic exchange of gunfire.
