Tarrant County College Southeast Campus in Arlington has a new leader. As classes kicked into gear this fall, Dr. Andy Bowne took office as the college's president following a rigorous national search. His two decades of educational leadership are expected to add substantial value to the institution, a sentiment shared by Chancellor Elva LeBlanc. "Dr. Bowne’s administrative and academic experience and his passion for entrepreneurial innovation make him the ideal candidate to help TCC Southeast support students, create new learning opportunities and serve our community," LeBlanc said, as per the City of Arlington.
With Bowne’s recent track record as president of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan., marked by enhanced student performance, enrollment growth, and stronger ties with business and community entities, TCC Southeast expects a dynamic shift in its educational landscape. Before his tenure at JCCC, Bowne held significant roles within the Ivy Tech Community College network in Indiana and Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan, where he was instrumental in securing over $60 million in support and grants.
The college, a longstanding fixture in Arlington and Mansfield for nearly three decades, continues undertaking campus upgrades facilitated by a 2019 bond program. This year, it launched new facilities catering to culinary arts, dietetics, and hospitality management, as well as a student experience building. Dr. Bowne's vision for TCC involves expanding its impact on the North Texas workforce and economy. "TCC is a proven leader in higher education, and I believe strongly in its mission to ensure that all students have an opportunity to reach their potential," Dr. Bowne said, according to the City of Arlington.
Beyond his administrative acumen, Dr. Bowne is academically inclined with more than a dozen years of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His academic prowess is recognized, having been elected to the Aspen Institute’s Rising Presidents Fellowship for Community College Excellence in 2018 and, the Aspen New President’s Fellowship in 2023. Dr. Bowne is currently a member of the Ferris State University Advisory Board for the Doctorate in Community College Leadership program.
