
A fatal hit-and-run crash on Monday evening in Minneapolis has led to the arrest of a driver, following a collision that left one man dead. According to Minneapolis police Chief Brian O'Hara, officers responded to the incident around 5:30 pm in the 2400 block of Washington Ave S. The man found with life-threatening injuries succumbed to his wounds at the scene.
The preliminary investigation, as obtained by a bulletin from the Minneapolis Police Department, suggests that the victim was riding a motorized minibike heading west on 24th Ave N when attempting to turn onto Washington Ave N, at that point witnesses reported a vehicle traveling northbound on Washington Ave N at a high rate of speed hit the minibike, after which the vehicle's driver fled on foot, though they were subsequently located and arrested nearby.
Upon the arrival at the scene, first responders, and officers provided medical assistance until EMS arrived, but unfortunately, it was determined that the man had already passed away, the secured scene led to an investigation and canvassing by the MPD Investigators, who are now examining the crash's specifics, including the potential roles of drug or alcohol intoxication. The individual accused of the crime has been taken into custody and faces charges of Criminal Vehicular Homicide as they await trial at Hennepin County Jail.
