The closure occurred before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, following a collision involving a motorcycle, which, according to reports was associated with fire. Alerted drivers are contending with backed-up traffic and are advised to seek alternate routes according to the Colorado State Patrol corroborated by a statement from the Golden Police Department.

Trudging through the morning commute, Denver7's Traffic Expert Jayson Luber offered a simple detour, "It is quicker if you are on EB 70 down from the foothills to exit at Morrison, go left, stay on Colfax to I-70 and join WB again," as per Denver7, suggesting a path to help circumvent the congested areas. Officials have yet to provide a timeline for when the roadway will be restored to normal traffic flow, but authorities implored the public to expect delays throughout the day.

Denver7 reported on the impact of the closure on traffic. As The Denver Post reports, as of 8 a.m., the eastbound lanes were affected, and the left lane of westbound I-70 had also closed for the investigation. Drivers on both sides of the interstate experienced 10 to 15-minute delays.

Further complicating the traffic scenario, CDOT alerted that Eastbound I-70 is closed between Exit 259 (Morrison) and Mile Point 261 (6th Avenue), clarifying that I-70 cannot be accessed from C470 westbound off-ramp, according to 9News.
