In a recent crackdown on drug sales in El Cajon and San Diego, local police have made significant arrests, targeting those accused of peddling fentanyl to the homeless. The El Cajon Police Department has been at the forefront, with a specific case that began on April 29 when officers were tipped off about potential drug transactions around a suspicious vehicle on N. Second Street. A search of the car led to the detention of two individuals, including Jordan Fox, a 20-year-old with a prior history of robbery and theft.

According to an El Cajon government report, Fox was found with fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, subsequently receiving a 113-day jail sentence and supervised probation for possession of drugs for sale and related paraphernalia charges.

The investigation focused on 35-year-old Joshua Kavaney from San Diego, who has a criminal record, including robbery and drug offenses. On September 10, detectives arrested him for having a credit card skimming device and drug equipment. They also searched his home on Murray Ridge Road and found two ounces of fentanyl, several guns (including a ghost gun and a machine gun conversion switch), body armor, and a lot of cash. Kavaney and Brittnee Gilmer, 27, were both arrested.

Assisting in the case were agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, who helped pinpoint the illegality of the firearms and accessories discovered. The announcement by El Cajon Police details that Kavaney's bail has been set at $500,000, while Gilmer was allowed to post bond after her arrest.
