Tragedy struck Transmountain Road over the weekend when a motorcycle crash resulted in the 41st traffic fatality of the year in El Paso. According to the City of El Paso, the incident, which occurred on Saturday, August 31, involved a motorcyclist identified as Reardon.
Sailing tragically towards an abrupt and final halt, Reardon was traveling at a high rate of speed on the westbound side of the road. The preliminary investigation indicates that Reardon lost control in the left lane, with the motorcycle skidding over the rocky median before laying on its side, and ultimately crashing into the rear of a stationary vehicle that was waiting at a red light. The driver and the passenger of vehicle 2 were reported to have not sustained injuries during the incident.
Reardon, despite being equipped with a helmet, was dislodged from the bike and succumbed to injuries at the scene. The police have identified speed as a critical factor in this fatal event, adding to a concerning trend of traffic-related deaths within the city.
As the city mourns its 41st victim, questions linger regarding the safety of El Paso streets and the need for improved traffic enforcement.
