A Texas inmate who had escaped from the Huntsville Unit yesterday was caught later that day in Calallen. The escapee, Jesus Villarreal, 39, was discovered missing earlier in the day from the facility, prompting a state-wide manhunt. Villarreal, who was serving a 63-year sentence for multiple violent offenses including aggravated robbery and assault, will now face additional charges after his short-lived flight from justice, according to a report by FOX 26 Houston.

After his escape, authorities believed Villarreal had stolen a maroon Chevrolet Malibu from a nearby convenience store, he was apprehended in Calallen a town in Texas, and had been reported missing from prison earlier that morning. Villarreal's criminal history includes four counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated assault from Cameron County, and an additional charge for possession of a deadly weapon in prison from 2015, as CBS Austin reported.

In the turn of events, the search concluded when Villarreal was located and taken back into custody. During the investigation, a woman by the name of Melissa Lozano was also arrested for her alleged role in hindering the apprehension of Villarreal. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice expressed its gratitude towards the cooperation among law enforcement agencies and the Office of the Inspector General in responding to this incident, upon apprehending Villarreal and taking him back into custody he will now be facing felony escape charges.
