A 21-year-old man from Fairfield County has been handed down an 18-year to life prison sentence today for a murder that took place in April last year, Attorney General Dave Yost confirmed. Isaac Pence, from Carroll, was convicted of the murder and additional charges, including felonious assault and tampering with evidence, on Aug. 26, as per the details shared in a statement obtained by the Ohio Attorney General's official website.
The conviction stems from a violent incident at a party in a Sugar Grove rental cabin on April 23, 2023, where Pence was found guilty of stabbing and killing 22-year-old Charles Starner of Lancaster.
The investigation, which culminated in the conviction and sentencing, was carried out by the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, supported by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office. Steady collaboration between these law enforcement agencies culminated in the successful prosecution of the case by the AG’s Special Prosecution Section.
