Last Thursday, a burglary was thwarted at a storage business on Walters Road in Fairfield due to vigilant CCTV monitoring and quick police response. According to the Fairfield Police Department, the business manager alerted authorities to a man cutting through the fence with bolt cutters and proceeding to break into several storage units.
The arrival of officers on the scene, paired with a drone operated by Officer Penate, proved too much for the intruder. Despite his attempt to flee through the complex into an adjacent field, he soon found out that hiding from the drone was an effort in futility. The police were led directly to him by Officer Penate, who provided real-time directions. Steven Patton, 54, of Fairfield, with a history of burglary, couldn't evade capture.
After being found in the field, Patton was quickly apprehended by pursuing officers. He was identified as the perpetrator, especially with an existing arrest warrant for burglary notable in his background. Recovered at the scene were the tools Patton used for the burglary and the property he stole.
