
A recent traffic accident on Stelzer Road has resulted in a fatality, as reported by the City of Columbus. The incident involved a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, which became disabled in the southbound #1 lane and was rear-ended by a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado.
The collision occurred late at night when passenger David Ford stood by the disabled vehicle's driver's side while the driver took refuge on the concrete median. Safety was a fleeting thought before disaster struck, as both men stood dangerously close to the flow of oncoming traffic. At approximately 10:36 pm, the Silverado, failing to maintain an Assured Clear Distance Ahead, collided with the Impala, propelling it 102 feet and striking Mr. Ford with such force he was thrown down the road. The driver of the Silverado abandoned the scene but was later located by officers near 3223 Allegheny Ave.
Following the crash, emergency services transported Mr. Ford to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where "Mr. Ford was pronounced dead," as per the official media release, his life coming to an abrupt and tragic end at 11:09 pm. The scene turned into a hive of activity as law enforcement and first responders gathered to assess and manage the aftermath of the destructive encounter.
The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the accident to determine the entire sequence of events, perhaps why the Silverado driver fled the scene and whether charges are pending in the wake of the collision.
