Drivers in the Fern Hill and Gibsonton areas should prepare for detours as an intersection upgrade project is set to close parts of Fern Hill Drive starting this Monday. The road closure, which is part of the Gibsonton Drive at Fern Hill Drive Intersection Improvement Project, will be in effect from Sept. 9 through Oct. 4, with the caveat that bad weather could extend this timeline.

According to a notice from Hillsborough County, the construction is critical for adding additional lanes and improving overall traffic flow. This includes extra left-turn lanes from Fern Hill Drive onto Gibsonton Drive, a new through lane, and a dedicated right-turn lane. The county has established detours and recommends U.S. 301 and East Bay Road as alternative routes during the closure period.
