In the waning days of the Clear the Shelters event, County Animal Services urges potential pet owners to consider adoption, as waived fees for animal companions are ending. Amongst the success stories shared is that of Rita, a 2-year-old black pit bull mix who went from cowering in a shelter to flourishing in a foster home and eventually capturing the hearts of her new family. According to the County of San Diego, the shy and formerly stray dog has found joy in car rides and playing with her new "sisters" since her adoption.
Animal lovers have until September 10 to take advantage of fee-free adoptions at the County's Bonita and Carlsbad shelters, an initiative that has been in place since August 10. The program aims to place animals like Rita with loving families. The shelters have been waiving adoption fees to encourage adoption and give potential pets an excellent chance to find a permanent home. As per the County of San Diego press release, "There are lots of beautiful dogs like Rita, along with cats, rabbits, pigs and other animals waiting for their happily ever after."
For those searching for a new four-legged friend, the shelters recommend browsing the online animal listings on the Adoptions page or visiting the South Shelter in Bonita and the North Shelter in Carlsbad, both open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Given the popularity of this special deal, the staff also suggest selecting a second and third choice if one's first choice has already been adopted. Furthermore, adoption fees are perpetually waived for senior adopters, seniors, and pets awaiting their forever home for 30 days or more.
