A Tuesday afternoon drive turned into a scene of flashing lights and crumpled metal on Scenic Highway in Bourne. The traffic, stalled by a three-vehicle accident, left four people with non-life-threatening injuries and resulted in the untimely death of a large dog. The crash occurred near Edgehill Road at approximately 12:43 p.m., and Bourne Police stated that the four individuals were transported to the hospital, according to Boston 25 News.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the vehicles, along with a dog that had succumbed to its injuries in one of them. As per a statement obtained by the Boston Globe, a preliminary investigation suggests that the crash was initiated by a vehicle making an improper left-hand turn while leaving a rest area, colliding with an eastbound vehicle. The eastbound vehicle was then propelled into the westbound lane, where it collided with a third vehicle.
Investigations into the specifics of the crash are ongoing by the Bourne Police Department. Aid was provided by Bourne police and fire departments, as well as the Department of Natural Resources, Wareham EMS, and Brewster Ambulance.
Officials have yet to release the identities of those involved or details regarding the conditions of the hospitalized individuals. They have, however, confirmed that two other occupants refused transport, choosing not to seek medical attention after the crash. In the chaos, traffic was significantly impacted as the cleaning crews worked, leaving travelers delayed for an unknown duration.
