To keep local businesses afloat amidst disruptive construction in the Frisco Rail District, the Frisco Chamber Foundation has launched a novel initiative. The "Frisco Rail District Receipt Race," a bid to rally the community's support for affected establishments, started yesterday and will run through December 31, 2024. According to the City of Frisco, parent-teacher associations (PTAs) designated as 501(c)(3) organizations can compete by gathering receipts from any business in the district to stand a chance to win cash prizes for their schools.
Residents are encouraged to shop, dine, or conduct business in the area, save their sales receipts, and submit them to their favored PTA. The city hopes that this initiative will help not just broadly sustain but also aptly celebrate the local businesses during the current Main Street makeover. Stakes are high for the PTAs; the organization with the most receipts collected will earn a $5,000 prize, with second place taking $3,000, and three runners-up each receiving $1,000. "The vision and renderings for the completed project are extraordinary, but during the path to completion, it's important we continue to visit our small businesses in the Rail District," Christal Howard, President/CEO of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, said, as per the City of Frisco.
This community-centric approach isn't new to Frisco. The city's economic stewards have long engaged in cooperative ventures, such as infrastructural investments and the hiring of a downtown liaison dedicated to Rail District businesses. Furthermore, the Frisco Economic Development Corporation has established a grant program targeting Rail District retailers. "Frisco is built on strong partnerships, and in true Frisco spirit, we're certain our community will rally to uplift these businesses," Howard added, as cited by the City of Frisco. With the World Cup scheduled for 2026 and the reinvestment projects aimed to be finished by then, the timing of the Receipt Race offers a dual benefit of immediate support and long-term vision.
