Country music legend Garth Brooks has officially been given a nod of immortality by the Austin City Limits (ACL), honored with induction into their Hall of Fame. Notching half a century of musical excellence, ACL saw fit to crown Brooks's illustrious career with this latest accolade during a ceremony on Wednesday, according to a KXAN report. Fans of the musician can tune in to watch the event on PBS come September 28.
In expressing his emotions over the induction, Brooks couldn't help but warmly praise the city of Austin for always putting the music first and foremost. "It’s really neat to be in a venue where they put music first," Brooks told KXAN. Expounding on his bond with the city known for its vibrant music scene, he went on to acknowledge that "Texas knows its music." The feeling is mutual. Austin has welcomed Brooks multiple times over the decades, making it evident that the Lone Star state holds a special place in the singer's heart.
Incidentally, Brooks has been closely linked with ACL since the early days of his rise, previously celebrating the show's 25th anniversary with a performance, and now marking the big five-oh. Cozying up to an audience that knows their music intimately, Brooks remarked in a YouTube interview, "they'll know their music inside and out and you can play anybody's music and they'll sing it as loud as they're singing your stuff." This mutual respect makes his ACL Hall of Fame entry seem more like a homecoming than a formal ceremony.
Marriage to timeless melodies continues to be a central theme for Brooks, expressed through his recent album that vows to always keep a "little thread, or vein, of old music," which he hopes fans will recognize as his signature sound KXAN reported. The new work celebrates both past inspirations and present-day aspirations, with Brooks stating, "I hope you hear new music from Garth Brooks that has that little thread, or vein, of old music."
Amidst the personal milestones, Brooks remains committed to his family - a cornerstone of his life's narrative - and cherishes the memories of taking his mother on tour. Echoing the ethos of his new album, Brooks's career has been a seamless blend of lyrical storytelling ingrained with the threads of traditional country alongside modern influences. The ACL Hall of Fame honor can be seen not only as a tribute to his past hits but also a nod to his enduring impact on the music world, a fact underscored by his warm reception in Austin, a city that reveres authenticity in music above all else.
