A series of burglaries in Fayette County led to the arrest of Ross Stayton Lester, 31, from Gonzales, after he allegedly broke into multiple properties, and stole a vehicle, weapons, and body armor, authorities reported. According to CBS Austin, Lester faces charges including two counts of burglary of a habitation, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and unlawful possession of a firearm and body armor by a felon.
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office's Facebook Page revealed that Deputy Cody Williams encountered Lester, already equipped with the stolen bulletproof vest. Lester's night reportedly began with the disabling of his car, which was rendered stationary, tires burnt down to metal. He then allegedly burglarized a residence by breaking a window, commandeered an ATV, and proceeded to break into another vehicle where the firearm and vest, reportedly used for security work, were appropriated.
Adding to the narrative, the homeowner at the 7500 block of Anchor Ranch Loop managed to scare off Lester, who was armed with the stolen items, before he tried and failed to steal a UTV, returning instead to his disabled vehicle on the ATV, as detailed by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Texas. Having tossed the gun into a ditch, authorities were able to recover it following Lester's admission during the arrest process. Booked into the Dan R. Beck Justice Center after medical clearance, Lester's raft of charges formally marked the end of his alleged burglary spree.
