Texans concerned with fire safety and regulation have new names to look forward to on the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Governor Greg Abbott has named Brandon Wade and Daniel Buford to join the state body responsible for developing and enforcing fire service standards. The commission plays a crucial role in ensuring that fire-related education and assistance are readily available across the state.
Brandon Wade's extensive experience includes being the current fire chief of the Corpus Christi Fire Department and a retired assistant chief from the Austin Fire Department, with a service record spanning 24 years. He boasts significant involvement in various associations related to firefighting, whether it be local or international, according to the Office of the Texas Governor. His academic credentials include an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science from San Antonio College, and a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management from West Texas A&M University.
On the other hand, Daniel Buford comes from a strong leadership background within the firefighting community as well, he's currently a lieutenant at the Bryan Fire Department. Buford's past posts include working with the Northeast Volunteer Fire Department and leading the Bryan Fire Fighters Association. His commitment extends to his role as district service representative of the International Association of Fire Fighters and his prior position as vice president of the Village Professional Fire Fighters Association. His educational foundation in fire science was laid at Lonestar Community College, as mentioned by the Office of the Texas Governor.
The appointments which took effect yesterday, have set expiration dates; Wade's term will end on February 1, 2025, while Buford's extends to February 1, 2029. The mix of urban and volunteer firefighting experience between the two appointees, reflects the commission's diverse approach to issues of fire protection and safety.
