A man in his 30s or 40s was hospitalized Friday night after San Antonio police found him with a gunshot wound to his leg near an OYO Hotel on the city's West Side. Officers responded to the 2400 block of Southwest Loop 410 following reports of the shooting, and the victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The San Antonio Police Department said preliminary reports indicate the man was discovered with the gunshot wound near the hotel, but investigators specifically noted the shooting itself did not happen inside the property, according to KENS 5. Where exactly the shooting occurred, whether nearby surveillance cameras along the busy loop captured the incident or a suspect vehicle, and whether police have identified a motive or any suspects all remain open questions in the investigation, per the same report. SAPD's investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
A Hotel With a History of Violence
This is not the first time the OYO Hotel in the 2400 block of Southwest Loop 410 has drawn a heavy police response. In April, a Bexar County district court sentenced a 43-year-old man to 60 years in prison for the May 2023 murder of a 30-year-old woman inside a room at that same hotel, as reported by KSAT.
The property's troubled record stretches back further. In May 2019, a San Antonio police officer shot a suspected car burglar in the hotel's parking lot following a physical fight, according to MySA. And in August 2017, police arrested a suspect after an armed robbery at the same motel, where two victims were held at gunpoint in a room before their vehicle keys were stolen, MySA also reported. Taken together, the incidents span nearly a decade of serious police calls tied to the same stretch of Southwest Loop 410.
Part of a Broader West Side Pattern
Friday's shooting adds to a string of recent non-fatal gun violence cases on San Antonio's West Side. Just days earlier, a 19-year-old sought help after being shot in the leg during an armed robbery before driving to a friend's house. In July, a man was hospitalized after being shot in the arm and rib cage during a pre-dawn drive-by shooting near Clock Lane and Merida Street, also on the West Side.
Citywide, though, the broader trend has moved in the opposite direction. Criminologists from the University of Texas at San Antonio reported in March that the city saw an 18.5% drop in homicides and a 21.1% decrease in violent street crime in 2025, following the launch of San Antonio's Violent Crime Reduction Plan, according to the San Antonio Report. SAPD data analyzed by KSAT recorded 105 homicides across the city in 2025, down from 127 in 2024. Even so, isolated non-fatal shootings and robberies on the West Side remain an active concern for investigators, even as citywide numbers trend downward.

If SAPD identifies and arrests a suspect, Texas law classifies an assault carried out with a deadly weapon as aggravated assault, a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000, per McCarty-Larson, PLLC. No suspect has been named in Friday's shooting, and police have not released a motive. Anyone with information is encouraged to cooperate with SAPD as the investigation continues.
